Multi-editing breakdown sheets

When the same change applies to lots of scenes, you don't have to edit each breakdown sheet one at a time. Cinapse lets you select several elements at once and act on them together, and copy elements from one breakdown sheet into many at once. This is the fastest way to clean up after a script import or add recurring cast, background, and set dressing across a run of scenes.

Select and edit multiple elements at once

On a breakdown sheet you can select more than one element and act on them together. Cmd-click (Mac) or Ctrl-click (Windows) each element you want, then use the action bar that appears:

  • Merge: combine duplicate elements into one, keeping all their occurrences. This is handy right after a script import, when the same real-world item comes in twice (for example two versions of the same cast member, like RICHARD and RICH).
  • Change category: move the selected elements to a different category.
  • Change case: set the text case (for example UPPERCASE or Title Case) for the selected elements.

You can also merge elements from the Element Manager, which lists every element across your whole stripboard. Open it with the Element Manager icon or the Ctrl / Cmd + E keyboard shortcut.

Copy and paste elements across multiple breakdown sheets

You can copy one or more elements from a breakdown sheet and paste them into several breakdown sheets at once, without re-entering them by hand.

  1. On the breakdown sheet, Cmd-click (Mac) or Ctrl-click (Windows) each element you want to copy.
  2. Press Cmd / Ctrl + C to copy the selected element(s).
  3. On the stripboard, select a range of strips for the breakdown sheets you want to paste into.
  4. Press Cmd / Ctrl + V to paste. The elements are added to every breakdown sheet in that range.

This is the fastest way to add the same cast, props, or set dressing across multiple scenes, for example when the same background actors appear in a run of consecutive scenes.
