To get accurate sunrise and sunset times, add a location to your breakdown sheets. If you've turned on the sunrise, sunset, or weather toggles in your preferences but the times look wrong or blank, this is almost always the missing piece: those toggles decide what shows, but Cinapse needs a location to know where to calculate the sun times for.
The fastest way is to use the Location field on a breakdown sheet (the sheet that holds the details for a scene). We recommend entering the exact postal address. Cinapse automatically geocodes it (looks up the map coordinates) and saves the precise latitude and longitude for that spot, which gives you the most accurate sun times.
Start rough, then fine-tune
You can enter a more general location first, such as Burbank, CA or Vancouver, BC, then pin it exactly:
- Open the location.
- Select the Edit icon (the pencil).
- Drag the map pin to the exact spot you want.
You can also rename a location independently of its coordinates. For example, you can label it Main Street Backlot for your crew while the underlying GPS coordinates stay set to the precise filming location.
Two places to edit a location
- Directly from the breakdown sheet, using the Location field.
- From the Element Manager: open it, select Locations, and go to the Map tab.
Assign a location to every breakdown
We recommend adding a location to every breakdown, even if some scenes share a spot. That way, if your schedule changes, Cinapse keeps sun times accurate automatically by referencing:
- The sunrise time for the first location of the shooting day, and
- The sunset time for the last location of the shooting day.

Location-based weather and sun times are available on the Professional plan and above.
In My Account > Preferences you can turn sunrise, sunset, weather, and other details on or off, and set your temperature and wind units.
