How do I import a script or schedule into Cinapse?

Start a schedule from a script or scheduling file: Cinapse imports Movie Magic, Final Draft, Scriptation, numbered script PDFs, and SetHero MMS conversions.

You can build a Cinapse schedule from an existing script or scheduling file instead of starting from scratch. Cinapse supports imports from Movie Magic Scheduling, Final Draft, Scriptation, a numbered script PDF, and SetHero (MMS PDF) conversions.

When you can import

  • When you create a production. Importing is part of setting up a new production; choose your file during creation. Available on all plans.
  • Into an existing production. On the Professional plan and above, you can also import a new script into a production you've already created.

Supported file types

Movie Magic Scheduling (.msd)

Importing a Movie Magic .msd file is fully self-serve. If your file was created in MMS 10, export it down to MMS 6 format first, then import the .msd into Cinapse.

Final Draft (.fdx / .fdr)

Import your Final Draft script directly to pull in your scenes and tagged elements.

Scriptation

In Scriptation, export your breakdown as a JSON file, then import that JSON into Cinapse to bring your tags and notes across. (Scriptation's CSV export is no longer supported; use JSON.)

Numbered script PDF

You can import a script as a PDF. For the best result it should be a numbered script; the PDF needs scene numbers so Cinapse can split it into scenes correctly.

SetHero (MMS PDF) conversion

If you have an MMS PDF template export, the SetHero MMS converter turns it into a JSON file that you can then import into Cinapse.

Good to know

  • Starting a schedule by importing is available on every plan; importing into an existing production requires Professional or higher.
